Social Helix - Episode V of our little startup drama
Social Helix LLC is a fledgling startup company in Milwaukee, WI. We started out of the humble roots of the Fireseed Group, and are now at a point where we are looking for 300-500k in angel money to establish enough marketshare so that we could make a play for VC funds in late 2008 or early 2009. This week we just submitted to ycommbinator and would love to share our reasons and experiences with the super charged startup incubator.
If we get at least 4 or 5 people that wants to hear our story, we will tell it; and answer any juicy questions you might have.
If you are interested in the technology behind our company or it's drama we will be willing to share some of it with barcamper in the name of openness, and experience sharing.
-the focus of this discussion shifted into a peer discussion about best practices for startups.

Question
My main question is, nowadays it is so simple to launch something on the web due to cheap hosting (competitive pricing) and cheap storage (Amazon S3, etc.) that the "two guys in a garage" type concept is totally doable, why isn't there a fully functional site for Social Helix, that you can invite people in (controlled beta) to use the product(s)?
I'd be more than willing to offer feedback, but there is nowhere (that I know of) to sign up and use something that actually works. Spend a bit of time building at beautiful, functional site, and seed it out to the influencers you know, and the local folks, the people who will review and talk about, and blog about your stuff.
Anyway, just my opinion...
Interesting story
I'm interested to hear about your concepts and challenges and the drama ... it is good to know--as you've pointed out before--that creative technology companies can get a foothold in this area of the country... hope you find succcess through the challenges!
