Visual programming with vvvv, a realtime multimedia toolkit.

dujoducom's picture

vvvv is a visual programming toolkit (similar to Max/MSP from the audio world) that is geared toward real time rendering, animation and video synthesis, hardware interfaces, and much, much, more. If you haven't seen a visual programming environment in action, you're really missing out!

Windows only

No Mac version. :(

Yeah, it sounds to me like

Yeah, it sounds to me like they are mainly focusing on the windows version because that is how they started and they don't have the resources to support multiple platforms at the moment. From forum postings it seems like they would like to expand but it isn't in the cards at the moment.

Official stance from the FAQ:

When will vvvv be developed for other operating systems?
Not soon. As it stands right now, we're still working to introduce more features into the software. As we concentrate on the Windows platform, vvvv includes a lot of specific features, which will help you getting the most out of your boxes.
All cross-platform compatibility issues will be delayed up until we think we have included all features which we think are important (read: Sorry, no Mac version planned in the next years). Note that even if we would start to develop a Mac version right now, you would all have nice little Intel Powerbooks, when we would be ready (on which you would have run our Windows version for ages).
A Linux version sounds more plausible.

vvvv pages...

The vvvv pages load very slow, but it is worth having a look. If people could check out the pages they would definitely be voting up this session, it looks like a really interesting tool in skilled hands.

weird

Hmm, the page isn't usually that slow, they might be having some issues or something. The learning curve is kind of steep at first, but once you get into it you can prototype ideas really fast.
