Social Helix - Episode V of our little startup drama
Posted October 10th, 2007 by jdavid.netSocial Helix LLC is a fledgling startup company in Milwaukee, WI. We started out of the humble roots of the Fireseed Group, and are now at a point where we are looking for 300-500k in angel money to establish enough marketshare so that we could make a play for VC funds in late 2008 or early 2009. This week we just submitted to ycommbinator and would love to share our reasons and experiences with the super charged startup incubator.
If we get at least 4 or 5 people that wants to hear our story, we will tell it; and answer any juicy questions you might have.
If you are interested in the technology behind our company or it's drama we will be willing to share some of it with barcamper in the name of openness, and experience sharing.
-the focus of this discussion shifted into a peer discussion about best practices for startups.
Social Networking -- past, present, and future
Posted September 24th, 2007 by JohnDecemberI'm fascinated by all the social networks available, and I'd like to have a session to talk about what has happened, what is happening now, and what the social networks OF THE FUTURE might be like...
I'm no expert -- which is what BarCamp is about -- and if you want to present something, that is great -- I am mainly proposing it because I want to attend and learn something from such a session. I'll facilitate the discussion and organize it loosely around the sequence: tales of the past, what is going on in the present, and ideas of the future.
I've come to know--through people in web414 and BarCampMilwaukee--networks such as facebook, meetup, flickr, twitter, yelp, panoramio, metroproper, pownce, OKCupid, linkedin, mySpace, ziki, upcoming, friendster, hi5.com, orkut, tribe, live, del.icio.us, tumblr, zorpia, familylink, outside.in, and more.
Flickrverse and Beyond

What started as a photo-sharing tool has become so much more. What are the ramifications of the Flickr universe regarding amateur vs. professional photography, online and real-world social networking, citizen (photo) journalism, virtual and literal travelling, travelogues, mapping, art collections/curating? What can Flickr do better; do potential competitors even exist? Where might the Flickrverse take us in the future?
Second Presenter(s) welcome!
Is classism inevitable on the Net?
Posted August 15th, 2007 by KeVroNThis will be more of a formal presentation to start with a history of classism and then explain some analogy's(15minutes). I hope to bring up some questions and have no doubt spirited discussions will follow.
